Medium: Shellac on photograph
Size: 15 x 10 cm
This particular base print is a photo of a window in the natural history museum in Berlin.
In general, I use prints of my photographs as a starting material. A mixture of shellac and other chemicals is then applied to alter, expand, and transform those photographs, carrying the “real” into the metaphorical. Some layers of the chemicals dry in a reflective high-gloss sheen, creating a visual depth for the eye.
At first sight, some shapes seem indistinguishable, blurry. But beneath the sometimes glossy, sometimes cracked surfaces stories unravel, long lost memories come back to life.
The artwork is sold without a frame.
