Honoko

Artwork Description:

‘Honoko’ is another in the ‘Art of the Floating Planet’ series. The pose is a classical pose from Greek antiquity and I wanted to imagine a strange crossover between classical art and traditional Japanese printmaking with a dash of tattoo culture thrown in. On her back you can see a samurai head which has been lifted from an old woodblock by one of the great master printers Kuniyoshi – famous for his depictions of Japanese warriors.
