Oil on canvas. “By the sea” embodies the feeling of wandering and melancholy I sometimes get, especially on missing the seaside despite never actually having had a connection to it during my childhood. I wanted to convey the misty atmosphere, freedom of the sea and still maintaining warmth through the choice of colour – a landscape that also reflects the internal state of the boy depicted, as he is gazing into the distance.
